I recently downloaded the new Raspberry Pi app called Open Pi, built by Artem Svitelskyi.
I had the app scan my LAN, and it found my running Pi 5 right away. After a small login bug, which I emailed Artem about, he replied quickly and asked for additional details. I was able to log in and get a quick overview of the app.
One thing I really liked was the terminal interface. I was able to run one of my Python programs, and I also used nano to write a new program directly from the app.
In the Service Tracking section of the main page, the app shows the SSH service, which is the only one I currently have running. You can also add many other services, including Docker, OpenClaw, Mosquitto, and many more. Open Pi will monitor a service if it finds it running, but it will not install, configure, start, stop, or manage services for you. If you want to install one of these services, there is a way to do this through the terminal.
Open Pi also lets you monitor CPU load, temperature, memory, and disk usage, control GPIO pins, and browse or add to your filesystem hierarchy.
This mobile app has a much better terminal than Raspberry Pi Connect in my experience, but it does not provide remote access beyond your LAN. If one wants to have remote access outside of your LAN, you can install the Tailscale networking tool. I will continue using VNC Viewer and Windows PowerShell when working with my Pi devices.
Open Pi is unique because it is one of the first apps that can connect you with your Pi from a mobile device in this way. After a few bugs are worked out, Open Pi has the potential to be very useful.
As one of the first people to test drive this new app, I am excited to see where it goes next.

I tested the new Open Pi mobile app with my Raspberry Pi 5 and found a strong terminal experience, useful monitoring tools, and promising potential once early bugs are resolved.
Greg Christian's weblog Projects, puzzles, and lessons from the trail.
Reading Trail Puzzlemania Posts
A walk-thru of the steps to access the digital replica edition of the Greeley Tribune. This video demonstrates how I access on my laptop computer, but you can access on any desktop computer. I also access on my iMac with a 24’’ screen.
Watch this video on YouTube Transcript of this video # Good afternoon. It’s May 24th, the day before Memorial Day in 2026. I want to show you all my access to Greeley Tribune, the digital replica edition.
All you need is a browser. I’m doing this on my laptop computer, but you just need a browser and you go to GreeleyTribune.com and you make sure you’re logged in over here to the right. You can see the standard digital access in my subscription.
Once you’re logged in and your account’s connected and everything, go over here to the left side where you see these three little lines and click on that and go down to e-edition and wait for it to load and then at the bottom you’ll see pages and all the pages of the Tribune and the supplements.
I usually close that and just read the Tribune from start to finish, but here is another ad. You can close this ad at the bottom and then you can’t close these ads on the side though. That’s kind of a negative thing.
Up here at the top you have a single page, single page and double page if you want to flip through it. That way I think it’s a little easier to read it as a single page, so I click on single page and you may have to fit the page through the screen and here is the full screen. Go full screen and then you just kind of…
It looks like I got here to the front range. I did that somehow. Anyway, you can flip with these arrows on the side of the screen and flip your way through the paper that way.
You can scroll up and down with your up and down arrow keys and this ad keeps coming back after so many seconds or minutes or pages or something, so I just keep having to close that.
It’s kind of a nice good way to read the paper.
Up here at the top you can do several different things. You can make clippings, print, a bookmark, download this edition, puzzles, archive, share, search, section list. That’s just your section list for this day’s paper and supplements. I mean supplements for today’s paper.
Over here you have archive download. Some more things to do. You can archive, you can go all the way back to November of 2021 if you want a specific edition, a specific day, and you’re searching for something that way.
Anyway, you can just pull it up, click on it, that’ll pull it up. This is two days ago and you can just read the paper that way.
So I hope that makes sense. If you have any questions, try to contact me through the email address on this website in the about page.
I hope that makes sense. Everybody’s having a good day. Thank you for watching.

Step-by-step instructions to access the Greeley Tribune digital replica edition, including a short YouTube demonstration.
How to Access the Digital Replica Edition of the Greeley Tribune
posts
My Raspberry Pi 5 had been performing very sluggishly ever since I installed Docker a few weeks ago. Between Docker and running Visual Studio Code, it was simply becoming too much to expect from a microSD card alone. At one point, it was taking 10-15 minutes just to boot up.
After discussing the issue with ChatGPT, I decided it may be time to invest in a USB 3 SSD (Solid State Drive).
This was one of the key points that stood out to me:
“A USB 3 SSD can make a dramatic difference in boot time, browser responsiveness, Docker performance, VS Code, package installs, and overall system responsiveness.”
And this observation really caught my attention:
“Many Raspberry Pi 5 users eventually say the SSD upgrade mattered more than the 16GB RAM.”
For now, I went ahead and re-flashed and re-imaged the microSD card from scratch.
